Music Director - Robert Van Dongen
Robert Van Dongen has recently joined the staff at Our Lady Of Victories as Director of Music. He began his music education at the age of 5, studying piano with Walter Schroeder, Conductor of the North Jersey Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. While in high school, he sang in County, Region, and Allstate choruses. He was inspired to learn the organ while attending Westminster Choir College. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with the organ as his principal instrument. Robert holds a Master of Arts Degree in Voice Performance from Montclair State University, where he also taught classes in music theory and music literature. He has 28 years of experience as a music educator and was the Choral Director at Ramapo High school in Franklin Lakes, NJ for 23 years. For more than 30 years, he served in various Catholic churches as the Choir/Music Director, Cantor, and Organist. For 21 years he was the Director of Music at Church of the Assumption in Hackettstown, NJ. Robert was the bass-baritone soloist on tour with both the Westminster Choir and the Pro Arte Chorale. He has performed at various venues in the New York Metropolitan area, including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. He once sang at a Papal Audience in Rome while on a Pro Arte tour of Italy. Robert is a father of three sons who all share his love for music and singing. He hopes to share this passion with the parishioners of Our Lady Victories and to actively engage them in expressing their faith through music.
